Whether you are getting ready for your installation, in the middle of it, or following up afterward, you will find straightforward answers here. And if you do not see what you are looking for, our customer care team is always a phone call or email away.

Preparing for Installation FAQ's

To be ready for an install:

  • Personal items, breakables, and electronics should be free from the install area(s)
  • Dressers should have draws emptied or removed from the area
  • Mirrors attached from dressers and moved (we won't move them)
  • China cabinets should be emptied and any glass shelves removed
  • Closet floors should be clear and nothing hanging lower than a men's dress shirt (we need about a 4 ft clearance)
  • If removing existing carpet and pad, please be sure to leave existing tack-strip. All staples should be removed or hammered down.
  • All beds must be completely disassembled and free of bedding and linens. Mattress and Box Spring should be stacked or on the floor
  • Disconnect and move all computers, stereos, TVs, VCRs, DVD equipment, or any other electronics, Inform the measurer and installer of all wires located under the carpet or along baseboards, Check for cable wire connections under existing floor covering(s).
  • Ceiling fixtures above and below the floor that is being installed should be checked to ensure they are properly secured. This includes the actual fixture, glass or globes and swag connections.

If you are unable to disassemble the items mentioned above, our team can provide disassembly and reassembly services for most items (excluding glass China cabinets) for an additional fee, depending on availability and scheduling.

To ensure this service is added to your order, please notify your installation coordinator before the installation day. You can do this by contacting the Project Expeditor at your local Home Depot store.

Once the flooring product(s) have been delivered to you, it is recommended to inspect the materials to ensure that everything is as ordered and there is no visible damage prior to the installation.

Hardwood, vinyl plank, laminate, and ceramic tile flooring all need to be carefully stored in over 65 degree insulated spaces for at least 2-3 days PRIOR to installation to properly acclimate to the environment and its natural state. If you do not have this time built into the installation process, it may be best to reschedule.

If you have any issues with your installation date and need to reschedule, call ACS at 973-405-6400 as soon as possible in order to not incur any additional cancellation charges.

Installation FAQ’s

Please make arrangements to have pets cleared from the installation area(s) and prevented from entering installation areas where installers will need to prep or work.

If you have elected not to have the installers remove your existing flooring, you must have this done before the installation (please call your Home Depot store Project Expeditor if you wish to add this service).

An adult over 18 years of age with the authority to make decisions must be present at the time of installation.

Depending on the size of the space and the type of flooring to be installed, the installation can take as little as 3 hours or for larger more complex installations, 1 to 5 days is the average.

This may include:

  • Light preparation of existing floor
  • Installation of the new flooring
  • Inspection of the finished flooring

Because flooring installation is a construction process, expect loud noise, residual dust, and no usable access to the installed room(s) during the installation.

You will receive a phone call from your ACS the day before installation with exception of installs scheduled to begin on a Monday. You should expect to receive the call for these installations either Friday or Saturday.

Please provide a designated space for an installation van to park and enter the installation area with the flooring materials, if it has not been previously delivered. During the winter months, driveways, sidewalks and stairs accessing the installation site need to be free and clear of snow and ice.

The address must have electricity and temperatures above 65 degrees. If ceramic is being installed, access to water for tile saws is also required.

Installers will clean and/or vacuum the installation area(s) and return items where they were when they arrived, to the best of their ability.

Although our installation teams are cautious and careful, normal installation methods may slightly scuff the existing baseboards or walls. Please expect to do minor touch-up painting after the installation.

Adhesives used for the installation can produce strong odors. It may be necessary to ventilate your home after the installation.

Flooring installation is a construction process which is customized to fit the style of your home. As in any construction process, there is always a chance of unforeseen issues. Some issues cannot be detected until the installation process has begun (i.e. moisture damage, floors with structural damage, asbestos floors, etc).

If unforeseen issues are discovered upon the removal of current flooring, a Change Order may be required and additional charges may apply to the installation.
